Before booking

No entry ticket, three bills.

The Cinque Terre National Park is an open territory: you enter the villages without a ticket and without booking. You pay for what you use. The train, with the Cinque Terre single fare ticket or with the Treno MS Card. The Trekking Card, which is only needed for the Sentiero Verde Azzurro and includes the Via dell'Amore with reservation. And the boat, if you want to see the coast from the sea.

Tours on GetYourGuide combine these pieces in different ways: some include trains and Card, others only transport or the boat. Each listing states exactly what is included in the price.

It was wonderful to do the tasting with Gabriel. The cellar is fascinating, with its thick stone walls, and the wines are excellent. The snacks are very good and Gabriel tells the story in an engaging and fun way.

The guide

The Cinque Terre, explained

Five villages between Levanto and La Spezia, built on the sea and on terraces. Since 1997 they have been a UNESCO World Heritage site, together with Portovenere and the islands Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto.

An inhabited park

The Cinque Terre National Park was established on 6 October 1999 and is based in Riomaggiore. It covers 3,860 hectares, with about 4,000 inhabitants, and since 12 December 1997 the sea in front of the coast has been a marine protected area. From north to south the villages are Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Corniglia is the only one not on the water: that is why boats do not stop there.

A paved walkway carved into the cliff above the sea, with a colorful village at the end
Along the coast, the trails run between rock and sea.

The Card, the train and the Via dell'Amore

The Cinque Terre Card is the Park's service card. The Trekking Card opens the Sentiero Verde Azzurro between Monterosso, Vernazza and Corniglia and the Via dell'Amore, and includes buses in the villages, toilets at the stations and the Park's Wi-Fi. The Treno MS Card adds unlimited regional trains from Levanto to La Spezia. The Via dell'Amore is walked from Riomaggiore to Manarola with reservation, with one entry every half hour. Prices and rules in the Cinque Terre Card guide.

The thing to know: there is no entry ticket to the Cinque Terre. If you do not walk on the Sentiero Verde Azzurro trail and do not go on the Via dell'Amore, you do not need the Card: the train ticket is enough. Every tour page states whether trains, Card or boat are included.

Vineyards and terraces

The slopes are cut into terraces, which here are called fasce, held by dry-stone walls and cultivated as vineyards. They produce two DOC wines, Cinque Terre and Sciacchetrà, from Bosco, Albarola and Vermentino grapes; limoncino is the local lemon liqueur. Boccaccio, in the Decameron, already mentions the "vernaccia da Corniglia".

From the sea

The Linea 02 boat of Navigazione Golfo dei Poeti connects La Spezia, Lerici and Porto Venere with Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza, Monterosso and Levanto. With the daily ticket you can get on and off all day. Schedules and routes in the boat guide.

FAQ

Questions before leaving

Direct answers to the most frequent questions about the Cinque Terre.

How much does it cost to enter the Cinque Terre?

None. The National Park is an open territory: there is no entry ticket and the five villages can be visited freely. You pay for the train, the boat and the Cinque Terre Card, which is only needed for the Sentiero Verde Azzurro and the Via dell'Amore. All prices in the Cinque Terre Card guide.

How much does the Cinque Terre Card cost?

The Trekking Card for one day costs €10 for adults aged 12 to 69, €15 on high attendance days on the Park's calendar; 2 days €17, 3 days €23.50. Children 4 to under 12 years €7, over 70 €8.50, family €27.10. Under 4s enter free with an adult who has the Card.

Are the Cinque Terre trails paid?

Only one. The Card is needed for the Sentiero Verde Azzurro in the Monterosso - Vernazza - Corniglia sections and for the Via dell'Amore; the other Park trails are free. The status of the sections changes: as of 22 September 2026, the Park reported the Manarola - Corniglia section as closed. Everything in the trail guide.

How much does the train to the Cinque Terre cost?

From 14 March to 1 November 2026 the Cinque Terre train ticket of Trenitalia costs €5, €8 or €10 per trip for adults, according to band A, B or C of Trenitalia's seasonal calendar, and is valid for 75 minutes for a single journey. The Cinque Terre Treno MS Card for one day costs €22, €29.50 or €35 until 1 November 2026 and €17.30 from 2 November to 31 December 2026, with no bands; it includes unlimited trains from Levanto to La Spezia. Details in the train guide.

How much does the Via dell'Amore cost?

Entry is only bought inside a Cinque Terre Card: Via dell'Amore + Trekking Card from €10 for one day (€15 on high attendance days), with the Castello di Riomaggiore; Via dell'Amore + Treno Card from €22 until 1 November 2026. You book a date and a half-hour slot, up to 200 people per slot; you enter from Riomaggiore and exit at Manarola, in 30 minutes at most.

How long is the Via dell'Amore?

900 meters, from Riomaggiore to Manarola, one way. From 29 March to 24 October 2026 it is open from 9:00 to 21:00 (last entry 20:30); from 26 October 2026 to 28 March 2027 from 9:00 to 18:00 (last entry 17:30).

Is it possible to visit the Cinque Terre in one day?

Yes. The regional train stops in all five villages, from Monterosso to Riomaggiore, and from Florence or La Spezia there are day tours. A simple order is from north to south, or vice versa. Ideas in the one-day Cinque Terre guide.

What are the five villages of the Cinque Terre?

From north to south: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, in the province of La Spezia. Corniglia is the only one not on the sea and has no boat landing.

Can you go to the Cinque Terre by car?

You can, but the Park advises against driving and indicates the train as the best way to get there. For Monterosso and Vernazza, exit the A12 at Carrodano-Levanto; for Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore at La Spezia, then take the SP 370. In Monterosso, the Loreto and Fegina car parks cost €3 per hour. Everything in the how to get there guide.

How much does the boat to the Cinque Terre cost?

With Navigazione Golfo dei Poeti, the Cinque Terre daily ticket from La Spezia, Lerici or Porto Venere costs €42 (reduced €15, children 6-11 years), the afternoon ticket €28. From 2 November to 8 December 2026 there is the "Cinque Terre Trip" at €37. Schedules and routes in the boat guide.

Is the Cinque Terre Card refundable?

No, except in the cases set by the Park's regulations: weather alert (yellow only for the Trekking Card, orange or red), force majeure, train strike for the Treno Card. Light rain does not entitle you to a refund. If you bought the Card online on the Park's website, you can change the date once, at least 24 hours before and in the same price band. The Via dell'Amore ticket however cannot be changed: in case of an unexpected event, you enter in the first available slot with free places.

Better a tour or the Card and train on your own?

It depends on what you want to pay. On your own, you buy the train or the Treno MS Card and decide the times. A tour takes you from Florence or La Spezia with a guide and, depending on the option, trains, Card or boat already included; cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. Each listing states what is included.
