The experience

The meeting point is 5-10 minutes on foot from Santa Maria Novella station: look for staff with a fuchsia jacket and Ciaoflorence folder. You travel by air-conditioned GT coach, with Wi-Fi on board, to La Spezia. From there the train takes you to Monterosso, the boat to Vernazza and then the train again to Manarola and Riomaggiore. It is 12 hours. On GetYourGuide it has 4.5 out of 5 with 3,455 reviews and starts from $46 per person (October 2026), with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

The price includes the coach, the multilingual tour leader, the boat cruise, the trains inside the Park and what the listing calls the entry fee to the National Park. The semi-independent option removes boat, trains and Park: only the trip from Florence remains. For reference, those traveling alone pay for the train with the «Cinque Terre» ticket, €5, €8 or €10 per trip for an adult according to band A, B or C of the Trenitalia 2026 calendar, valid for 75 minutes for a single trip (from 14 March to 1 November 2026), or with the Treno MS Card, from €22.00 for an adult, 1 day, in green band. An entry ticket to the Cinque Terre does not exist: the villages can be visited freely, and the Cinque Terre Card is only needed for the paid Sentiero Verde Azzurro and for the Via dell'Amore.

The street food is an option: Ligurian focaccia, a cone of fried fish (or the vegetarian version) and a taste of limoncino. Without the option, lunch and drinks are extra. When booking, you need the first name, last name and date of birth of all participants, for transport and local services. The tour may run in multiple languages together: from 1 April to 31 October there is always English and Spanish, and on some days, with a minimum number of participants, French (Wednesday and Sunday) and Portuguese (Monday). It is not suitable for wheelchair users; animals, luggage and large bags are not allowed.

We had a wonderful day [...]. Our tour leaders, John and Dion, were fantastic, especially John, who was our reference and stayed with us for the whole trip. [...] It is a long day, but it was definitely worth it. The villages were beautiful and picturesque, and the food we ate along the way was exquisite.
